In 1531 the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to native Mexican convert St. Juan Diego on the mountain of Tepeyac near Mexico City. Her miraculous sign of love for the people of the New World was to impress her image on his tilma or mantle. Through this holy image many people have been brought to belief in Christ; her power to draw souls to her son continues even today.
- Wood-mounted icons are on Pro-Wood, with with tee-slots milled in the back for easy hanging.
- Icons are finished in classic cherry to replicate the traditional icon red, in keeping with Byzantine tradition.
