The Bible: A New Translation
The Bible: A New Translation
The first edition of this new complete translation of the Bible was published in September 2001. For the first time, specialists in biblical languages and texts (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) had collaborated for over 6 years with contemporary writers to produce a completely renewed translation of the biblical texts. Among these writers were renowned contemporary authors: Jean Echenoz (Prix Médicis 1983 and Prix Goncourt 1999), Emmanuel Carrère (Prix Fémina 1995, Prix Renaudot 2011), Marie NDiaye (Prix Femina 2001 and Prix Goncourt 2009), but also François Bon, Jacques Roubaud, Olivier Cadiot, Marie Depussé, Valère Novarina... More than 20 exegetes worked on this translation in pairs with a writer. A review committee was chaired by biblical scholars Pierre Gibert and Thomas Römer. The bishops of France had praised the work accomplished and its originality in an official statement from the Episcopal Conference. This translation has since made its way. It is known as the "Writers' Bible." It should be remembered that these are rigorous translations, established from in-depth exegetical and philological work on the biblical source languages. This new translation has made it possible to renew biblical language and adapt the texts of the Scriptures to our modern sensibilities. This new edition has benefited from a complete review.
