Drinking from the Sources: How Scripture and Liturgy Shape Our Christian Life is a companion volume to Ways to Nurture the Relationship with God. Once again, through Patricia Coulter’s careful translation and selection of Cavalletti’s training meditations to catechists of the Good Shepherd given in Rome in the early 1970s, we all can experience Cavalletti’s penetrating insights into the integral relationship of Scripture and liturgy and how both inform and form the Christian. Cavalletti’s method reflects her Biblical scholarship as she probes the root meaning of various words and situates various biblical passages in their historical as well as theological contexts. She employs the method of typology to illustrate the living connection between the Old and New Testaments. In this volume she focuses on several of the Eucharistic Prayers, as well as an ancient liturgical prayer of St. Basil, to stress how Christ’s saving action continues in and through us when we gather for Mass. By slowly and carefully meditating on the chapters in this small volume, the reader will discover how God’s plan is being realized through the divine-human cooperation, expressed in a particular way in the liturgy, and lived out in each of our lives.
