St. Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) was a twin, the 24th of 25 children born to Giacomo and Lapa Benincasa, and one of the most extraordinary Saints in the history of the Church. She had mystical experiences from a very young age and conversed regularly and familiarly with Our Lord and Our Lady. Her spiritual directors and priest friends, as well as her disciples, called her “mother,” in deference to her profound spiritual wisdom. Even Popes Gregory XI and Urban VI were captivated by her faith-filled, practical advice. The Life of St. Catherine of Siena is a unique biography, in that its author, Blessed Raymond of Capua, was one of St. Catherine’s spiritual directors. He knew her mother, who revealed to him many stories about St. Catherine. He also knew other members of her family and many of her friends. The information in this book is taken directly from these people who knew St. Catherine and from the author’s own experiences and the notes left to him by her former spiritual director. This book will put the reader in awe of the extraordinary things that can happen to a person who takes Our Lord’s message seriously, loves Him ardently, follows His law faithfully, and surrenders himself completely to the Holy Will of God. St. Catherine of Siena is an astounding example of this. She has been proclaimed a Doctor of the Church and is now honoured with the title “Seraphic Virgin.”
