Directory for Catechesis (New Edition)

This third edition of the Directory for Catechesis (2020), prepared by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, “offers fundamental theological-pastoral principles and some general guidelines that are relevant for the practice of catechesis in our time” (p. 15)

Updated in part to address the rise of the digital culture and to incorporate the reflections on the recurrent theme of evangelization from synods of the past decade, the Directory is divided in three parts:

- Catechesis in the Church’s mission of evangelization
- The process of catechesis
- Catechesis in the particular Churches

The Directory for Catechesis is for all bishops, priests, deacons and consecrated persons and all catechists at the Diocesan/Eparchial, parish or school level engaged in the catechesis and evangelization of the faithful and of all people. It also serves as a tool for the elaboration of a national or local directory.
