In Pope Francis’ Revolution of Tenderness and Love, Cardinal Walter Kasper, who has been referred to as “the pope’s theologian,” considers the importance of Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis’ 2013 apostolic exhortation that tackles the problem of the Church and the modern world at its core. Both positive and critical assessments are in danger of trivializing the pontificate: making the Pope a kind of star as opposed to looking at him as a theological lightweight.
