Pope St. John XXIII (born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, 1881–1963) was the 264th pope of the Catholic Church, serving from 1958 to 1963. He is most famously known for initiating the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), which brought significant changes to the Church, including reforms in liturgy, ecumenism, and religious freedom.
